Alex McLeod is an artist who creates work about interconnection, life’s cycles, and empathy through the computer as medium. Prints, animations, and sculptures are produced as gateways into alternative dimensions, oscillating between the real and the imagined.
McLeod holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design, and a MDM from the Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University, Toronto. He has exhibited internationally in festivals, museums, and embassies. His work is held in private and public collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art (NYC) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Toronto).
In the early 90s, rural Almonte residents reported seeing strange lights in the woods near their homes. Shortly after, ufologists received packages from an anonymous source named “Guardian” that included video footage of a UFO crash off Old Almonte Road. Guardian claimed that government agents recovered alien beings and studied them at the University of Ottawa. Leading American ufologist Bob Oechsler investigated the case and his findings were featured in an episode of Unsolved Mysteries that continues to be debated by ufologists today. While many dismiss Guardian as a hoax, the many credible reports of UFO sightings in the Almonte area were never explained. The CBC revisited the Guardian case in the 2021 documentary "UFO Town".
